Examinations & depositions - information of Wm. Holmes, Toddington. He is a servant of Jn. Strange, Toddington, farmer and baker. His master found wheat had been stolen from shocks of wheat standing in his fields. Holmes the next night hid himself in the middle of 'one of the shocks near to the shocks from which ears had been cut, and about 12 o'clock .... saw John Lingar of Toddington ... cut off ears of corn from ... three shocks'. When challenged Lingar begged him not to tell his master and offered him beer and a shilling not to; Holmes told him he would not be bribed for £5.
