  • Scope and Content
Information of William Soames of Stevington, husbandman. Lost pigs from his yard which he later identified in the possession of Mr Kippist, constable of Great Barford. Information of Robert Plumb of Stevenage, Hertfordshire, pig dealer. At 7 a.m. on St.Neots market day he was standing at the door of the Sun Inn, Eaton Socon, when Isaac Aspley and James White came by with six pigs. He bargained with Aspley for the pigs and finally bought them. After he bought them he suspected that they might have been stolen and 'kept him in talk till the middle of the day' and accused him of stealing them, which Aspley denied, but later in the yard said 'Now, pray let me go, and I'll take the pigs back to where we had them from, Mr Soames's at Stevington.' Plumb then handed Aspley over to the constable and went to the Queen's Head, Wyboston, Eaton Socon and bought back James White who said little but 'he supposed they would have seven years of it.' White did not say anything when Plumb was bargaining for the pigs. Examination of Isaac Aspley. Stole the pigs at 11.30 p.m. and White met him as previously asked when he had got the pigs to help him drive them. he didn't tell White how he had got the pigs until they reached Wyboston and he went on with him to Eaton. He gave White a shilling for victuals and drink for helping to drive the pigs. Examination of White; Aspley asked him to help him drive some pigs to St.Neots market for Mr Soames and he would give him a shilling. Said nothing to Plumb about the pigs being stolen when he was bargaining with Aspley.
