    Sent for by Mrs Pitford, who kept a public house, to keep order. Heard William Vintner, Richard Vintner, Samuel Butcher and Benjamin Hatton say that they intended to insult Charles Brown and William Isherwood. The two latter men left the house first and the constable followed the others who left soon afterwards. he the saw Samuel Butcher andRichard Vintner stripping to fight and heard them challenge Brown and Isherwood. The constable stood between the parties and said there would be no fighting in his presence. Butcher put his fist in Purser's face and wanted to know what he had to do with it. Whereupon he called upon Brown, Isherwood and Edward Samuel to assist him in taking Butcher to the cage. Butcher resisted and with the other prisoners pushed Purser down through the street fence and attempted to get his staff away. In falling he tore his leg on a nail.
