Scope and Content
Information of John Shaw, high constable. Saw James Dennis and William Pettit drinking in the New Sun. Hearing from Mrs Hares, the landlord's wife that Pettit had brought the sack in under the table near him, he went over and sat down directly over it. He felt the bag and suspected it contained stolen poultry; he called the landlord to send for Goode the constable to attest the two men. Despite protests from Pettit the bag was opened and found to contain a turkey.
Information of Charles Goode, Ampthill, constable. His brother informed him of what Dennis had told him [see QSR1825/358]. He then went to the New Sun and took Pettit and Dennis into custody.
Information of William Pettit. Met James Dennis who said " 'you have got a large family Pettit and I'll give you a turkey for your dinner tomorrow', I accepted it and Dennis went with me to the Sun and we had some beer."
Information of James Dennis. Bought two turkeys from a man he met but did not know and lost one of them.
