    Information of Daniel Man of Steppingley, labourer. He was standing in the Horseshoes public house, Steppingley, watching the dancing ('it being the feast'). William Short of Westoning came up to him and struck him a blow near his left eye, 'he having done nothing to provoke the assault.' He went for the constable and Short was taken into custody. Information of William Fordham, Steppingley, servant: similar to the foregoing, Examination of William Short who refuses to say anything or find sureties for his appearance at the quarter sessions.
