  • Scope and Content
The magazine is good for finding out about how certain departments worked and things were made; a series of articles followed processes in pictures. It also has information about how the products of the company were used and exported. However, it mainly features members of staff in various roles and gives family news such as weddings and births and later the series AC Youngsters that was of pictures of employee’s children from birth to about 12 years of age. The publication is good at captioning groups of people but most of the pictures are very small (the publication is A5 in size) and so not all people mentioned are listed in the catalogue or indexed. The suggestions page always includes a picture of the man who made the suggestion often at his work station (they are all men in spite of a plea from a female employee for suggestions from female staff). If a person you are interested in was a member of the AC Players or one of the sports teams it is possible they feature in one of the photographs in reports from these groups. From 1951 onwards news from Southampton news is mingled with news from Dunstable and from October 1951 onwards references to births and marriages are not listed in the catalogue for each issue. One thing the magazine doesn’t do very much is give detail of how well the business is doing although the section The General Manger Writes gives a few headlines of this side of things and major changes and mergers do get features.
