    Information of William Hillyard of Hockliffe, labourer. Identifies a brown or deal coloured smock which had been stolen from a hedge in George’s close by Thomas Holloway, as his. Information of Ann, wife of John Bird of Chalgrave, Blacksmith. Saw from her parlour window Thomas Holloway putting on the smock frock which had been drying with other clothes on a hedge in George’s Close, Hockliffe. She went and told her neighbour, Mrs Tucker, mother of William Hillyard, whereupon Joseph Chase and George Tucker went in pursuit of Holloway and brought him back wearing the smock frock. Information of Joseph Chase of Hockliffe, harness maker. He and Tucker overtook Holloway in Squire Gilpin’s park near Hockliffe grange; Holloway admitted stealing the smock, which was still very wet.
