    Examination of Martha Crouch of Wilstead. After washing her clothes she put them on a hedge to dry. Later William Keech, William Redman and James Christmas brought some clothes to her and asked if they were hers; some of them were hers.Information of William Keech: saw two men take clothes from a hedge. He went into Mr Armstrong’s closes and then followed them. He eventually caught James Hall, with the help of William Redman and James Christmas, who denied taking the clothes.Information of William Redman; he was in the Rev. Pawsey’s yard and heard William Keech shout and went to his assistance and helped take the two men.Information of James Christmas; he was also working at Mr Pawsey’s and said to William Redman ‘let us run after them but as you can run faster than me, I will soon overtake you …’Information of Thomas Croseley, constable of Wilstead; Mr Dine’s daughter came to tell him that two young men had been taken for stealing washing. He found James Hall and William Smith, whom he had previously seen in the Red Lion, Wilstead.Information of Daniel Sharpe; a handkerchief belonged to him and had been washed by his mother in the poor house; the pin cloth was the property of Hannah Taylor, also in the poor house.
