After repair the axe was stolen from Day's shop.Information of Edmund Day.Information of John Hostler of Houghton Conquest, labourer. Richard Sletcher of same, labourer offered to sell him a newly sharpened axe for 2s, but he declined.Examination of Richard Sletcher. Denies offering the axe for sale. The axe in his possession belonged t ohis broether in law George Soulsbury of Wootton.Justice of the Peace note 'Richard Sletcher has already been twice in prison for robbery and is a notoriously bad character in the parish of Houghton.'
