Scope and Content
James Short came into his public house, The Swan With Two Necks in the Middle Row, Dunstable, and asked for a pint of ale and a 'roll and cheese.' While he was drinking he was joined by Samuel Linger to whom Short offerd some of the ale. When Linger left the house shortly afterwards there was 'an alarm given in the street that some turkies [sic] which were supposed to have been stolen were found in Mr Adams' (the Towcester) wagon which was then standing ... near to this informant's house. James Short immediately left ... leaving about half his pint of beer and did not return again. His beer had been paid for!
