  • Scope and Content
She was gleaning with several other poor women in a field in Silsoe when some of them including Elizabeth Rogers agreed to send for some beer. Ann/Anne Stormer was asked to join the party but refused and 'continued peaceably at her work of gleaning'. After the beer had been drunk Elizabeth Rogers went 'in great fiery' towards Ann Stormer and called her a 'mean niggerdly devil' and said 'she would drum her out of the regiment'. Ann Stormer was then knocked down by Elizabeth Rogers and received several violent blows which had produced bad bruises. Elizabeth Rogers in her defence said Ann Stormer made the first assault; the Justice of the Peace did not agree - 'this did not appear to me to be true and consequently I committed Elizabeth Rogers to the County Gaol' for want of sureties.
