The inventory was found in a house in Markyate in 1966 by Mr W Pilkinton and was kept by him and his family. A transcription by Dr Joan Schneider was published in the Manshead Archaeological Journal in 1974. In 2021 while preparing a volume on probate inventories for the Bedfordshire Historical Record Society Barbara Tearle traced the original inventory with the help of John Buckledee and Joan Schneider of Dunstable to Dick Pilkinton, the son of the finder. Mr Pilkinton generously gave the inventory to Barbara Tearle and agreed with her that it would be donated to Bedfordshire Archives.
