Scope and Content
Examination of Samuel King of Luton, collar maker. He was at work in Mr Cawdell's shop at Luton when he was told that his box had been broken open at this lodgings. He immediately went to Mrs Gatward's where he lodged and missed a silver watch and brooch; acting on information he received from Crawley, a carpenter, he found the watch hidden behind a piece of tin near the wall behind Mrs Gatward's house. The watch was found on Samuel Gatward afrer his arrest by the constable.Examination of John Crawley of Luton, carpenter, who has assisted the constable, Barrett, to arrest Samuel Gatward. The prisoner had confessed to him about the watch and told him where he had hidden it.
