Title
Examinations and depositions: information of Thomas North, Wootton, farmer. Called up at midnight by William Astwood and John North to go to Samuel Moore's house they having discovered him in Thomas North's orchard stealing fowls. Moore would not let him in but he eventually forced the door and Samuel Moore 'endeavor'd to retreat through a backplace where I was stopped from pursuing him by a dog that caught me in the leg'. William Astwood and John North did pursue him for 200 yards ad brought him home. Thomas North put him in the care of the constable.
Examination of William Astwood, same, tailor; he was returning home at five minutes to twelve at night with John North when 'I heard the noise of fowls in Thomas North's orchard'. They went to see what was the matter and saw a man who threw a fowl at them which hit John North. 'I then called out Samuell I know you.' Moore made off but was caught by John North. After a few words they let him go and searched for other persons whom they had seen going another way 'but we could not pursue both'. They found no-one so went and woke Thomas North, then as in previous examination.
