Examinations and depositions: examination of William Gibbard. He got into 'a return chaise at Redburn with four boatmen and came to the Royal Oak, Woburn'. One of the men took his knapsack when he turned to speak to the chaise boy. The four men ran off but he overtook Thomas Wakefield and gave him to the constable of Woburn. He with William Foxlee [Foxley] and Samuel Truman then went after the other three men to Fenny Stratford. 'We called at the sign of the Cock in Fenny Stratford, enquired there of Mr Leigh, book keeper of Mr Pickford's boats about these men - Mr Leigh ordered the boats to be stopped until he got up the next morning', this was at midnight. At 6 am he saw three boatmen in a public house, they ran off to the back of the house but he caught one, Josiah Reader in a bedroom. Josiah Reader said he knew where they left the knapsack and the bayonet was in a hedge. They found the bayonet but when they came to the place where the knapsack was supposed to have been left it was not there although they found a pair of trousers, shoes etc. On reaching the constable of Woburn's house the knapsack was there, the landlady said a boy had brought it in. There were various articles of clothing however, including a new regimental coat, a pair of grey trousers and wellington boots.
