Examinations and depositions: Various depositions regarding theft of beer as in QSR1783/50, 51. Jas. Proctor wakened in the night by Mr Parker's dog, got up and went to call his men but found that they were not in their room. He went into the stable and found 2 pails under the manger 'which had visibly been filled with beer' but his men denied theft of it. Dan. Parker said the barrel had been pegged with a much larger peg than he used 'and not well drove in'. Edm. Dawson confessed to having beer in the pails but said it was given to him by a person whom he promised 'not to discover'. Wm. Eames said they drank part that day and 'the remainder yesterday'.
