  • Scope and Content
Sending flowers from the garden. Hopes mother is feeling better. Mrs Hall coming to keep house while they go up for the wedding. Must bring baby if stays the night. Has got to have dress fitted again, thinks it will look very well ‘the hats are very ugly this year, mine is not very pretty but will go very well with the costume.’ Went to tea with Miss Orlebar ‘she has got most of the furniture from the vicarage & a beautiful lot of old china…’ Good half term report for Willie ‘…he is also learning a little besides lessons, but I suppose one must expect that, he comes out with ‘blockhead’ ‘idiot’ stupid ars etc to his small brothers. Joyce is very pleased to be able to play a little, she can play Sun of my Soul well enough to sign to now & it has been her great ambition to be able to play hymns. I feel quite confident that George will never shine at lessons but as a trencherman he is hard to beat. Rowland is getting rather an imp he does such dreadful things & looks so innocent all the time…Baby is very well & very fat.’ Went to Mrs Davisons to tea. Had man to clean the kitchen boiler and cylinder, sent for sweep 'I hardly know where to start in this great place'. [last page missing]
