  • Scope and Content
‘My dear Bessie I thought of you all on Sunday, as I did not go out, I imagined how you would be spending the time. I am glad Mrs Newman has been to see you, as I fancied she was disappointed at my not going with her on the other occasion. Yes she does seem much smaller but seems keeping pretty well, wonderful I think and I expect Janie would enjoy it too. I am sorry to hear of Willie’s mumps but hope they will be better and no more cases follow. What wet disappointing weather we are having. We have got some hay up but not I fear in very first rate condition. Have just had a letter from Mrs Williams saying she is giving a Garden Fete and would I send something for a provisions stall (Farm produce) also one from Mrs John Chapman asking for help for a Jumble Sale for a new Rostrum for their chapel so the little profits go but anyway we have escaped many ills so must not mind. Just lately Elsie is doing a good bit of fishing with the Turners but have not yet caught a whale. Edith one day was turning hay on the machine as hay were a man short. Yesterday being wet she went to a sale at Leighton. I wanted to go but could not manage it. I do hope it will come better weather soon and that you will be able to get away for a little and then go to Totternhoe from here. A few lines from Min this morning she says if their farm is not sold as a whole it will be sold in six lots but she don’t seem to be very keen on it. If it was only nice weather I would like the kiddies to come over, during holidays if they care to. We must have faith that it will come better. Your pink sounds most enchanting. I wish Ediths had been made on those lines it would have suited her better. Your loving mother.
