Letter from Emma Chapman to Bessie Godber, Friday. Couldn’t get to Buckland but Elsie and Mrs Cope came to Puttenham. Problems with Mrs Cope over the gravestone. ‘Our meeting was not very cordial.’ Will advise Elsie about the sale. Linen not worth troubling about. Seems soon to have the sale but Elsie had instructed Mr Newman to get it over quick. Elsie ‘was telling me that she intended making her will directly she got her money and she should leave it to go back to the Copes as she felt sure they thought she ought not to have it but the £500 she considered was hers, nothing to do with them…’
