- Scope and Content6th October, 13th November, 20th November: Minutes of Parish Council sub-committee concerning the proposal by Redhead & Gray to quarry chalk. Covers the fact that, on selling the manorial rights to Captain Part, Redhead & Gray retained the rights in mines and minerals in the area; the offer of 3d per ton royalty on chalk carted which was to be accepted; the rescinding of the offer of 3d per town when the County Council gave permission for road access to be cut through; resolution to investigate further whether the Lord of the Manor had the right to remove the minerals to such an extent that the area is reduced and whether he has the power to sell chalk outside the Parish. 14 November 1914: Parish Council to County Council: has the County Council given permission for Redhead & Gray Limited to open a quarry on the north east side of the Cutting adjoining Watling Street? This will seriously affect the right of way on the top edge of the cliff. 14th November: Parish Council to Redhead & Gray accepting their offer of 3d per ton royalty on chalk carted from the public quarry. 16th November 1914: Office of Clerk to the Guardians to Parish Council: on the basis of the Award, he believes the Parish Council has no power to give permission for the quarrying. 30th November 1914: County Council to Parish Council: no permission has been given for the quarry but permission to obtain access between the land and the road has been granted. No knowledge of the owners' right to quarry chalk or the right of way. Copy of Bye-laws with respect to the Village Green and the Recreation Ground dated 11th March 1963
