Title
Note on Sir Robert Catlin and Newnham Priory. Extract of leaflet 'The Wealth of Five Northamptonshire Families' regarding the Spencers of Althorp. Sir Robert Catlin's daughter and heiress, Mary was married to John Spencer III in 1566 bringing large wealth and property to the Spencers. Sir Robert Catlin had advanced from being Reader of the Middle Temple in 1547 to Chief Justice of the Queen's Bench in 1559. He invested his income in land and property including Newnham Priory in Goldington, moving to live there in 1559. He also bought the manor, rectory and advowson of Eyeworth in 1566, and the manor and warren of Sandy. Sir Robert died in 1574 and was buried at Sutton.
