- Scope and ContentThe writer ate the grapes and some cherries and had fruit enough left to make a grand desert for Mrs Ann and Edward Villiers who dined on Saturday. Lord Morley's son is much better and they now feel tolerably easy about him [Assumed to refer to Henry Villiers Parker, Viscount Boringdon (who died Nov 1817, aged 11), son of John Parker, 1st Earl of Morley]. Writer met met Ward at her brother's house. He desired to know if Mrs P Yorke [Anna Maria, recent widow of Philip Yorke] wished to remain at her present house, and if anyone had got [the parish living of] Mile End. He gained no satisfactory information on the subjects. Reference to a Royal Breakfast tomorrow. The Archdeacon and Mrs Cambridge are invited and supposed it might be a mistake as neither of them has been presented before. The writer hears that the Regent will be at the breakfast. Princess Charlotte has another dinner party last Saturday - the Duke of Leeds and Lord Pembroke were 2 of the guests. Now they dine at seven and do not give beds. Mention of Fanny [Frances Lorwy-Cole, nee Harris, niece of the writer] 'I see no symptons of the event being at hand [birth of Arthur Lowry Cole, 24 August 1817]. Florence [Florence Mary Georgiana Cole] is quite recovered and a most engaging merry little creature. 13 Aug: Frederick means to depart for Newby tomorrow. Sorry to hear of the death of Lady de Grey's old servant Mrs Box. Would be grateful to receive dvenison about the 20th of the month.
