- Scope and ContentHas heard that the 'great voyagers' arrived safe a few days ago, and slept on board their vessel, where Lord & Lady Boringdon were going to visit them. They have been fortunate with the weather and the writer rather envies them the expedition 'altho' at the risque of being taken by an American privateer.' Reference to [Jean] Bernadotte [Charles XIV John of Sweden] declaring war against France. 'If Bernadotte is true to the cause (and I think his interest will make hime so) who knows but we may again see many of the rightful owners restored to their domains and rank...' Further comments made. Writer has been attending the Salisbury music meeting which revived past recollections with a certain melancholy. Gives details. Mention of the Duke of Cambridge, who was at Mr Douglas's, and received a deal of attention, Royal Dukes being rare in the area. He has since been at Longleat and was at Stone Henge on Friday. Mention of the Prince of Orange. Alfred and Mrs Harris [his wife, Maria] are with us for a few days; 'she is of a size to make one rather wish she were fixed at home, and I believe this will be her last visit....' [prior to birth of son Alfred in October 1813].
