- Date free text10 Dec 1809
- Production dateFrom: 1809 To: 1809
- Scope and ContentShocked at the decision in favour of Mr [Henry] Clifford. According to the writer's sources, parts of Mr Sergeant Best's speech were seditious. 'Mr Shepherd's reply was excellent and so clever and convincing that nothing but a partial jury could have decided against his statement of facts, especially after Sir J Mansfield had also given his opinion in so clever a manner. It is one of the most disgraceful verdicts ever given by an English jury.' [Relates to court case regarding the 'Old Price Riots' at Covent Garden Theatre]. Reference to A.J.J. Deshayes [a French ballet dancer], who will most likely dand again at the Haymarket theatre..
