Writer will be there for a few days at the end of October or beginning of November and could see Lady Lucas. The writer then begins her 'autumn circuit.'

    Gives details of proposed visits. Hopes to hear of Lady Grantham's safe arrival at newby, and that all is well there. Had not heard of Elizabeth Maginis's illness till Lady Lucas mentioned it. Reference to the political situation in Europe. Regrets that play box negoatitions have not succeeded. Possibility of getting on for a month soon after Christmas, before the town fills. Count [Pavel Alexandrovich] Stroganov, Russian envoy, is to return to Russia. It is not known who will succeed him. Writer has not read Forbes Life of Beattie ['An Account of the Life and Writings of James Beattie, LL.D. Beattie' by Sir William Forbes], but hears it is highly spoken of. Mention of pamphlets about the French Revolution. James and his wife [James Edward Harris and wife Harriet Susan, nee Dashwood, married June 1806] are living at Heron [Hurn] Court and fine the old house and all its inconveniences quite delightful. The writer's brother though all their new furniture little suited to the ancient mansion. Alfred [Thomas Alfred Harris] has a curacy in Sussex and is now furnishing a house not far from Chichester. Reference to the Princess of Wales [Caroline of Brunswick] being involved in an accident when the barouche she was travelling in overturned. The Princess and Lady Sheffield were bruised and shaken, but the other passenger, Miss Cholmondeley, was killed instantly. The Princess has taken her death much to heart. P.S. Writer has hear of no servant likely to suit Lady Lucas as housekeeper only; did hear of one who was cook and housekeeper.
