'I was glad again to visit Old Kent Road [?] no otherwise modernised than by having the addition of a certain closet with water, which our forefathers did not consider so absolutely necessary to comfort as their successors do. In all other respects, the ways of the house and the manners of the servants seems as if still influenced by the spirit of the former possessor.' 'My brother took Fanny [Frances Harris, niece of the writer] and me across a most extensive .... heath to the sea there where we had a five view of Swanage bay, Poole and the Purbeck hills. He has lately acquired a piece of ground on this heath that gives down to the sea. The young plantations propser so well on this sandy heath that a century hense it might be a pleasant spot for a ...pavilion.' Comments about other areas visits.
