- Scope and ContentVenison arrived on Thursday on excellent condition. Mr & Mrs Batt are coming tomorrow and will have the haunch and also bride cake of 2 sorts, some from Newby Hall [following the marriage of Thomas Philip Robinson to Henrietta Frances Cole], and a fresh suppply is expected from Mrss Banks [?] who is to marry tomorrow. Comment about the lethargic disease that prevailed amidst the families at Park Place. Learned that the bride cakes had not reached Park Place - perhaps those appointed to distribute them thought they had been sent; James received his in Town. October would suit better than September for the writer to visit Wrest. This will be a year of some expense, as the writer is about to renew her house. Hopes Lord Nelson will meet the combined fleets and do something to make amends for what it is generally said Sir R Calder might have done.
