  • Scope and Content
Comments about the attentiveness of Lady Lucas's servants. Finds the family at Newby Hall going on much as previously. Pleased to observe Mr Thomas [Thomas Philip Robinson] disposed to like a country life, besides his sports and dogs, he has an interest in agriculture, and in the evenings reading and music. Frederick has taken a little to shooting, but with him it is an acquired taste. The day after the writer's arrival there was a trotting match between Mr Beachcroft and Frederick, which was won by the latter, and also a galloping match between John Smith and Mr Beachcrift, won by Beachcroft. There is to be a firework display next Wednesday and there is to be a grand supper. On the 23rd will go to Doncaster races, following which the writer will go to Lord Newarks [John Leslie]. Note: Thomas Philip Robinson inherited Newby following the death of William Weddell without children. Weddell died in 1892.
