- Scope and ContentComment that Mrs Laurence ‘went so far once, when her canine favourite dog ‘Pluto’ died as to have him stuffed as an ornament for her staircase; and when he came home the poor dog was so much fatter than he was in nature she was obliged to have some of the padding taken out.’ Writer is reading St. Simon which she finds amusing. Makes some comments. It is the new edition which has 20 closely printed volumes. Archdeacon [Francis] Wrangham is staying; he is famous for translating Italian, Latin and French into English and vice versa. He has been travelling himself recently.
