  • Title
Notes on brickmaking in Clophill in 17th and 18th century. Names of brickmakers are derived from wills of William Hodden, Trustram Heath, Thomas Water, Charles Harris, Thomas Humberstone and parish register entries for Thomas Peck. Most merely give the occupation as brickmaker but the will of Thomas Humberstone gives more detail. The Kiln is mentioned in 1746 in connection with Goodman's Farm, later Brickwall Farm and a lease for the farm mentions that the tenant will not use or sublet the brick kiln but will permit the landlord to use it.
