- Scope and ContentIs staying at the hotel for a month as unable to find a suitable furnished habitation. 'If the wind which blows today should continue, or be succeeded by more severe weather, I fear our paper walls and large windows will be but poor shelter for us.' However, all are well, and feel safe in Worcestershire, as are defended by the Malvern Hill Rangers, 'a corps raised by the writer's uncle, who are preparing themselves with great ardour to resist and efforst by the enemy.' The view is towards Mardesfield; the writer is reminded of all the happiness she has enjoyed there. Son Joseph has at last become one of the defenders of his country in the character of a midshipman. Expects any day to hear that he has sailed. Writer feels she in is need of some absolute quiet before she can regain her old habits. Her eyes have improved considerably, though are sensible to the effect of cold wind or fatigue. The music meeting did them no harm. Comments about the music meeting.
