  • Scope and Content
The house was built around 1591 and passed through the Ventris family to a daughter Henrietta in 1743. She was wife of John Field of Cranfield and the family was then known as Ventris-Field. They sold to James Bevan who then sold to George Osborn in 1788 and various members of his family occupied the house until about 1903. George Charles Wentworth-Fitzwilliam lived there from 1920 and was succeeded by Walter F. Chapman until at least 1940. In 1966 Mr G. King bought the house and sold it to Mr A. Fairweather in 1981. Also contains photocopies from Lysons' Bedfordshire and Victoria County History, and a copy of Thomas Fisher's print of the Manor House
