Notes on Bromham Hall. The 16th century part of the Hall appears to have been built by Sir Lewis Dyve when he acquired the manor of Bromham between 1553 and 1565. The article gives the story of the Dyves, their feud with the Botelers of Biddenham and Sir Lewis Dyve's career in the Civil War. The Hall was sold to Sir Thomas Trevor in 1708 and passed through the family to Miss Eleanor Mary Rice-Trevor in 1852. Some details of her relationship with village are given. On her death it went to her great nephew Trevor Wingfield. The article gives an idea of life at Bromham Hall in the early 18th century based on the diary of Benjamin Rogers, Rector of Carlton from 1720-1771 who was presented to his living by Lord Trevor and was on friendly terms with the family. The estate was broken up in 1924 when the Hall and surrounding land was bought by Mr R. Skinner. N.B. Notes on Bromham Mill and Bromham Bridge previously in this packet have been amalgamated with CRT130BRO/4 and 7 respectively.
