Letter from Jacqueline Charlotte, Comtesse de Hompesch to Lady de Grey, Wrest Park. Mention of thunder storms. The writer has been twice exposed to the bad weather: on Sunday dined with Mrs Antrobus and the storm began as she got her carriage to return home, the second occasion was yesterday when walking to the Thomas Cocks's and got soaked to the skin.

Lady Anne Bernard has been invited to visit the King, where she was introduced to the Duchess of Gloucester, who he described as 'the comfort of my life'. When she left, he hung a gold chain with his medallion round her neck and kissed her on each cheek. Reference to 'Karcher's impending calamity'. Mention of books. Asks if Lady de Grey had seen in the newspaper that the Duke of Gordon is married again. [Alexander Gordon, 4th Duke of Gordon married Jane/Jean Christie]. 'It is to a companion he has had for thirty [years] and really in that way she is respectable for she hasonly been his and always faithful. She has one or two daughters and the reason of his marrying her now is her being in the increasing way and he hopes it may prove an heir to his dukedom...'
