    Notes on the Jews of Bedford by Patricia Bell. Original community were described as watchmakers and silversmiths. The basis of the attraction for Jewish settlers was the Harpur Trust and there is an account of the dispute with the trustees over the Jewish families benefiting from the Trust. Contains details of the families who settled here: the families of Michael Joseph, Joseph Lyon and Godfrey Lyon. Godfrey Lyon had many daughters whose husbands also settled here; the most notable was Morris Lissack. See also BFHS Volume 8 Winter 1992
