  • Scope and Content
Writer was invited to attend the dinner, and had ordered a chair to transport her to Harley Street. On arrival one of the carriers said the cost would be 6s and another 6s home, so the writer refused. Assumes that by coming in that way the carriers thought she would pay anything they asked rather than be disappointed by not going out. Was reduced to taking a dirty hack, and as it was a wet night, it gave her the worst cold she had had for years. Saw Elizabeth Stuart last Sunday; she intended going back to Paris on Tuesday. Lord Hardwicke is better and his attacks less frequent. Mrs Colleton has written from Lausanne and Geneva; all well, though disgusted with the dirt in Lausanne. She gives a good account of Annabel Colleton and thinks all are better for a change in climate. When she wrote from Paris, Mrs Colleton reported how much the French hate the English. Mrs Philip Yorke and her 6 daughters are on their way to Forthampton.
