- Scope and ContentHad an excellent journey from Lady Lucas' house to Hendon; the Luton horses were particularly good. Met with the fair at Barnet - the road was almost impassable for half a mile with droves of cattle. Mrs Lindsay [Elizabeth] was delighted with the fruit; the partridges were sent on to the Bullers in London. Has seen Lady [Margaret] Fordyce, but could not make out anything about Lord Hardwicke; did ascertain that Royston's leg is no better. They say it will be a long time getting well but that it is not a dangerous case. [Refers to Philip Yorke, 1st Viscount Royston.]
