  • Title
Letter from Catherine Bathurst to Amabel Hume Campbell, Lady de Grey. Sent from Cheltenham. Obliged by kind offer of venison and grouse. Decline offer of venison as have neither friends or room for a venison feast at this place, and unlikely to leave until after the season is over. Would reserve partridges for Cadogan Place. Sister is grateful for long letter from Lady Lucas.

  • Scope and Content
Left Cadogan Place early in the summer this year. Writer’s sister has been prevented by a feverish attack from taking her Chalybeate Spring as regularly as we would wish. She has now begun to do so, and therefore stay is to be prolonged for another fortnight, with a visit or two on the way home. Pleased to hear the coronation went off well [coronation of William IV]. Hopes Lord Goderich did not suffer from fatigue – it was sooner over than expected. Considers Lord Goderich [Frederick John Robinson]has been lucky to get rid of Pembroke House [Whitehall, London] and to secure a good one on Carlton Terrace. Pleased that Lady Grantham [Henrietta Frances Robinson] is gaining strength. Sorry to hear of the death of Lord Rokeby [Matthew Montagu, 4th Baron Rokeby, died September 1831]. Emily [writer’s niece, Emily Charlotte Ponsonby, nee Bathurst] is detained at Marseilles by her children being ill; hopes soon to proceed on their journey to Lyon. Georgiana [Bathurst, niece of writer], will set out to meet the Ponsonby’s at Lyon as soon as she hears when Emily and family leave Marseilles.
