- Scope and ContentGeorge Smith: lost four deal boards which he intended to make into a door. James Juffs: had been working for Mr Smith making doors. Some of the boards he had prepared were stolen, and some later found in a sack in a pond in Crancourt's Close. The boards had been cut in half but four pieces were still missing. James Goodman; saw Eliza Penwright going towards the pond with something under her cloak, then the breaking of ice and splashing of water. Later saw a sack containing deal boards floating on the water. Eliza Penwright: her husband's brother, Hezekiah Penwright, found the boards in their garden. Hearing that Mr Smith was going to search for the boards, she and Sarah Riddy hid them in the dunghill. They did not think this place was safe enough, so she put them in a sack and threw them into the pond. Elizabeth Smith: was standing near the dunghill and saw Eliza Penwright hiding the boards. Hezekiah Penwright: similar to Eliza Penwright's evidence. Sarah Riddy: knew nothing about the charge.
