- Scope and Content'The terms we are likely to be forced into.' Discusses the liklihood of being required to vacate the pariamentary seat after 4 years. 'To be sure the vigour of my Grandfather's [Hugh Hume-Campbell] measures and the number of votes on his own estate would probably have given Sir John Paterson the election if the three parties had stood out; but he knew the 3rd party would come in to me and therefore he offered the terms I mentioned.' Gives details of Paterson's offer to the third party. Hopes to persuade George Fairholme to state the details fairly to Lord Marchmont, but unsure if this should be before or after the election.
