Copy of notes by Donald Armstrong of 5 Waterloo Road made c 1955 concerning the new development area between Harpur Street and Priory Street, Midland Road and Bromham Road. Plans were for 500 houses to be demolished and replaced with 5 & 12 storey council flats, Police Station, shops and offices, Modern School Science Block, new arcade, enlargement of Marks and Spencer to twice the size by purchase of the Star pub, enlargment of Woolworths by West Arcade, enlargement of Green Stores by three times backing on to Church Square - focal point of the new area, site for new Sainsbury shop, demolition of 5 pubs and building of 2 new ones, multi-storey carpark, new bus station, site of old Hawes almshouses to be used for shops and offices, swimming bath for Physical Training College, Heath Centre on corner of Union Street and Tavistock Place.
