Title
Correspondence regarding the eligibility of widows and the location of the foundation trust deed of the charity, which is not in the trustees' possession. the Charity Commission state int was in their possession in 1882/83 but was returned to Mr Richard Cooke, solicitor, and may have been handed over to the Trustees of Francis Ashton's Charity for Almshouses at Dunstable in 1885 when the site of the original Almshouses of Hibbert's Charity was conveyed to the Trustees of Francis Ashton's Charity in exchange for the present site. Includes a hand written extract from the original trust deed which states that "such widows or other occupiers as within twenty years preceding such appointment shall have been menial servants or wives of menial servants in any gentleman's or lady's family" are ineligible.
