Note from Margaret Taylor of Bedford Training college dated 19 October 1964 on Captain W.H. Smyth of 6, The Crescent, Bedford. He was an astronomer and had an observatory at his home. He was invited to become the first president of the Numismatic Society but declined the offer. The first volume of the Numismatic Journal 1836-1837 was dedicated to Captain Smyth. The house Captain Smyth lived in was later occupied by M. d Marchot and his wife who ran the French Protestant College; it then became Bedford Training college and M. de Marchot was one of the original committee who founded the kindergarten and college.
