Scope and Content
Ratifies marriage settlement on Elizabeth, his wife and executrix. Failing any issue he devises the reversion of his manors etc. as follows:-
1) to Craven Lewis, son of his sister Lewis, and his sons
2) to Robert Becher, eldest son of John Becher, citizen and dry-salter of London, and his sons
3) John Becher, second son of John Becher, and his sons
4) Edward Becher, third son of John Becher, and his sons
5) Richard Becher, fourth son of John Becher, and his sons
6) His cousin John Becher, son of William Becher, citizen and druggist of London
7) His nieces Frances, Elizabeth and Jane Lewis, daughters of his sister Jane Rachell Lewis
Provision in each case that on determination of estate by forfeiture or otherwise, it is to pass to William Farrer of Cold Brayfield (Buckinghamshire) and Thomas Brown of Arlsey on trust to pay rents thereof to the person concerned.
Provision that should Craven Lewis or his son inherit under the will, they are to adopt the surname and arms of Becher.
Charge of £600 on personal estate under the terms of the will of his father William Becher for founding free school at Renhold.
Personal bequests including property in Bloomsbury and St Andrew by the Wardrobe, London.
“And whereas I have shown no resentment to my wife on account of the ungenerous disposition of the estate of Mrs Mary Clarke, late sister to my wife, it is my request to my wife that she will make at her death equal distribution of her estate to my nieces as well as her own”.
