Employed George Smith, who was "distressed". Smith asked if he might borrow a shilling to buy a steak. When he did not return, Larkins suspected him of taking his tools. Found Smith in the White Lion and his tools in a gardener's cart outside it. He and Thomas Circuit took Smith to the constable.
