  • Scope and Content
Note: The exact provenance of this item is uncertain. It was originally among the records of the St.John family to whom Simond was related by marriage. It was deposited in the Record Office in 1936 and listed with the other documents in summary form by Dr. G H Fowler in 1939, but the whole collection was withdrawn in 1940 and subsequently dispersed. A box number (83a) found on the item in 1986 indicates that it was stored with the collection BC (last box numbered 83) when the Record Office moved into new premises from the Shire Hall in 1969, and it might have been purchased by the Bedford Corporation (Mr. Gilmore) who may have re-deposited it in the Record Office between 1940 and 1969. No trace of such a deposit has been found in the accession records, and the item is not catalogued with BC.
