    The writer's father [Crompton] is coming to London to consult about a sore in his face, which is growing worse; the writer fears it will grow into something very bad. The newspaper is full of accounts of earthquakes in different parts of England. 'I should not be at all surprised if we have one in London, for the weather is so close and the air seems to boil like a pot.' Writer is in better health than for the past two tears; believes it is due to the cold baths. Lady Don wrote that Sandy [Sir Alexander Don of Newton Don, later 5th Baronet] keeps close to his books and is free of any vice, or bad company.
