Went to Eccles [near Kelso] on Friday to see Alexander's niece who has met with an ugly accident - 'in getting out of bed, she cut her leg with a certain machine that we call the hand organ, which it seems was broke in the handle. She is not able to set her foot to the ground...' [Possibly refers to Anne Paterson, daughter of John Paterson and Anne, nee Campbell, half-sister of Alexander]
