- Scope and Content“I commit my precious soul to Almighty God ...” (gives directions for funeral at Putney) to wife Elizabeth £500 and interest of 2 tallies in the Exchequer, 11 September 1704 and 20 September 1708, (for such of grandchildren – named – as she shall think fit); pearl necklace and gold watch which she useth to wear; use of household and furniture for life, to give to children as she shall think fit; and lands in Surrey and Sussex – no details – for life; houses in Wilch Street and Hollow Well Street are already the subject of settlement to undutiful son John by 1st marriage, farm in Harrow-on-the-Hill to son James, George Inn, messuage adjoining, Black Horse Inn, Cock and Pye, messuage in Drury Lane, all in the parish of St Mary Savoy, Middlesex; messuage in Wood Street; White Swan Inn, Leighton Buzzard (now in occupation of Elizabeth Morley), and copyhold lands therewith used, also messuage adjoining, leased to Henry Gregory; and much other property in London and Middlesex (details) Many other legacies to grandchildren and others (named), also charitable bequests witnesses: Kempe Bridges, William Ingram, Richard Harrison 5 Mar 1715 proved 23 Jun 1716 note: endorsement has 1715, document 1705, but latter is wrong, as there is a reference to deceased brother Robert Stone’s will (see X172/4)
