  • Scope and Content
'I suppose all fears of a invasion are now over, and that that you will not be obliged to go a hunting. The French have got what they wanted, keeping our fleet at home.' Anecdode about the writer's fort guns, the sounds of which were heard at Blair Atholl, where the company thought that good news had arrived from the fleet in the channel or from America. It has been a fine season for shooting. The Duke of Atholl [John Murray, 4th Duke of Atholl] is said to have killed 45 brace in one day. He uses a double barrel gun, seldom misses, and often kills two out of every covey at once. Lady Glenorchy has found great benefit from drinking mare's milk and riding; she seems not to be in perfect health.
